Develop my own site or use a startup Kit?
Hi, I am planning to write a games review site and it would involve reading writing to a database, a rich text editor, user profiles and management and a few standard features.
Whilst developing the site, I have also noticed that there are some starter kits like DotNetNuke which comes with a whole lot of features like support for localization, ads, RSS feeds and all. These features are nice to have but if i were to use the startup kit, it would mean understanding code (i prefer writing my own).
can I write my site without those features for better maintenance ( i know my own code) and still come out with a good site? are those features standard these days?
Edit: I know programming and used to be a ASP/VB.net programmer 4-5 years ago.
I am confident to write a site which will allow game reviews together with ratings, most popular reviews, image upload and display etc but I haven’t had any experience writing/integrating stuff like widgets, AJAX, Feeds and all.
